More Musings & Mayhem

World, Meet Pheebs

I have some news I’m dying to share with you *drum rollllllllll*….

On June 2nd we adopted our very first rescue pup!

We’ve named her Phoebe (Pheebs, for short). She’s a 7 month old Boston Terrier/Pug (or Bug as they are called) who was rescued with her 2 siblings from a  puppy mill and placed in the care of  Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC).

We drove 14 hours to Southern Ontario to pick her up and 14 more to get back home again and it was so very worth it. She fits like she has always been a part of the family.

Huge thanks to BTRC and Phoebe’s foster mom and dad, Jen & Paul, who did an amazing job with her and for choosing us to be her right family – we will never be able to thank you enough.

Over the Canada Day weekend, we took Phoebe for her first trip to the beach. Hope you enjoy the shots 🙂

My Life According to iTunes

Ever wondered what the playlist/soundtrack for “Your Life: The Movie” would sound like? Of course, you have! Me too. So I declare today Random Fun Day on The Moon and we’re going to play The iTunes Shuffle Game!

Those of you who have played before know the fun we’re about to get into. Those of you who haven’t, get ready for some fun. (more…)

The List of Happy.

If you sat down right now and wrote out your List of Happy, what would be on it?

You’d probably have the big things like friends, family, career and so on. But what about the little things?

Those obscure little joys that perk up any no-good-very-bad-day and put a li’l pep back in your step. Maybe it’s a song, a flavour of ice cream, or that beloved old jacket. Maybe it’s raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, or bright copper kettles.  Though not necessarily as profound as the big things, they are no less vital in your regiment to right your world when it goes off kilter.

I know I would definitely have the li’l things on my List of Happy.

In fact,  here’s 30 of them:

1. L-l-l-lola! There are few songs in this world that can earworm me for days and have me happy about it like The Kinks’ “Lola” can. Better than chicken soup for remedying a case of the no-good-very-bad day.

2. waking up to the smell of coffee brewing
3. knee-high boots with heels, always
4. leather jackets – find it near impossible NOT to smile from the good vibes felt when slipping into a really great leather jacket
5. Kraft Chewy Caramels – nom nom nom
6. butterfly kisses
7. Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of The Moon” album
8. red wine – especially if it’s Thursday night on The CW 😉
9. vanilla or cinnamon scented anything
10. silver and purple nail polish
11. acoustic guitar tracks and electric guitar riffs
12. bad boy antiheroes – Blame It On Han Solo 😀 (more…)

New Podcast & New Writing Adventure!

Holy Salvatores and Saltzman, moon readers! This has been an insanely busy couple of weeks for me!

Popping in quick to give you a li’l taste  of what I’ve been up to.

First off, a brand new Televixen.com TVD (“The Vampire Diaries”) podcast is HEEEERE!!

YAY!

This round I was invited in to join Vee (Vampire-Diaries.net), Connie (Blast Magazine), Lucia (HeroineTV) and Melissa (TheTelevixen.com) for a TVD Season 1 Retrospective chat and we had a crazy blast doing this one!

As a extra special treat for all our listeners, some TVD fans and bloggers joined in on the mayhem with emails and audio clips of their favourite Season One moments.

You can listen to this podcast, Chemistry With  A Doorknob (it’ll make sense, truuust me 😉 ) HERE.

Speaking of TheTelevixen.com, leads me nicely into my second bit of cool news.

I have recently joined the ranks of Melissa’s illustrious writing crew and am looking forward to musing in my’ moon’ way over there from time to time talking TV this season.

Check out my first article HERE

That’s all the news I have time to post today.Tonight the epic premiere of Season Two of “The Vampire Diaries“awaits.

After my mind is blown, should I recover cognitive function well enough to coherently type tomorrow, I’m almost certain you’ll be hearing ALL about it 😉

The Epic Ode To Rain: A Soundtrack For Your Journey

Epic Rain Tracks

Recently I wrote a post called Bring On The Rain in which we talked about how mustering the courage to make a big life change can be a lot like braving a big fear of thunderstorms (which I once had).  After that post, I got to thinking more about the next leg of the journey us  ‘rain-bravers’ and ‘courage-musterers’ are about to embark on: the ultimate roadtrip.

Deciding to take a sharp turn off your life’s presumed main highway onto its road less travelled is a big, big thing to do. As far as your-most-memorable-roadtrips go, frankly, this one’s going to take the cake. And if you’re anything at all like me, every such-epic roadtrip needs to have an epic roadtrip soundtrack. Ergo, the reason for this post.

Below (in keeping with our rain theme) I’ve put together my soundtrack, “An Epic Ode To Rain: A Soundtrack For Your Journey “, of 20 of my favourite ‘rain’ songs’. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry and some will simply make you rock your courageous little socks off. I hope you have half as much fun listening to it as I had putting it together. When you’re done, I’d love to hear which ‘rain’ songs you would choose for your roadtrip soundtrack.

And now, without further ado, grab your hair brushes and your air guitars, roadtrip rockstars: it’s time to rock a li’l rain. 😉

UPDATE: Been having some issues with the player today. If you cannot see a list of songs below, CLICK the “Pop Out Player” Button  and the playlist should load fine on a new page.

11 Songs I Must Confess Make Me Wanna Shake My Ass

It’s okay.

You can admit it too.

We all have one of these lists.

10 songs or so off the top of your head that every time you hear them – no matter where you are, no matter how totally and utterly against the very nature of everything your music collection stands for – it’s damn near impossible NOT to  give in to your hips’ instinctive urge to swivel to them.

Being a girl who’s music collection tends to be dominated by the likes of AC/DC and The Rolling Stones, this is a BIG confession for me. But today, I’m in the mood to have a li’l fun, balk the status quo. So I’m giving in to temptation and posting my ‘list’ of 11

-yes 11, not 10- (remember we’re balking here, people) –

songs I must confess, make me wanna shake my ass.

Now you wouldn’t leave a girl dancing around the office all by her lonesome, would you?

Thought not.

So stop what you’re doing right now. Stand up. Press play below and shake your rebel ass off! ‘Cause now you know, somewhere out there on the other side of the moon, I’m so shakin’ mine with you!

Reflection

Who is this looking back at me?

She touched the glass hesitantly

Familiar in a far off sense

As if we’ve met but never since

A pretty girl in a certain way

Lost somewhere she will not say

An impelling  plea in her blue, blue eyes

Find me! Save me! their reflection cries

Once we knew each other well

Perhaps again, time will tell

She touched the glass hesitantly

Who is this looking back at me?
