Once Upon A Time, I Fell For a Pilot

Once upon a time in the enchanted land of ABC, there lived a television show based on fairy tales of yore with a modern day twist and everyone who watched it fell in love with it. The end. Okay, maybe not everyone fell in love with ABC’s pilot of “Once Upon A Time” last night but I did, or more to the point perhaps, I fell in love with its potential. There’s a lot of it. So let us on to a quick recap and review then, shall we?

Once upon a time in The Enchanted Forest far, far away…

Snow White and Prince Charming, ABC's "Once Upon A Time"

…our episode opens with Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) on his noble steed riding to his beloved Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) who has succumbed to The Poisoned Apple and been laid to rest in a pretty glass coffin by the Seven Dwarves. Charming plants a Goodbye Kiss of True Love on Snow White’s ruby red lips and behold -she awakens! Still with me? Don’t forget we’re working with a fairytale premise here so hang in there, the fun stuff’s on its way.Now where was I? Oh right, Magic Kiss, Snow White lives and off we go hippity-hop to their grand wedding and happily ever after.

Or at least that was our plan.

Instead, The Evil Queen of Sneer & Smoke (Lana Parrilla) totally crashes the party and casts a big ol’ dark curse on the happy couple and their enchanted subjects. In fairness to said Evil Queen though, you’d sneer and smoke too if you had to wear that wardrobe. But I digress, on with the recap! Continue reading

Tornadoes, Turkey, and Travel Plans

Is it really October already? Where did the summer go? Actually, I know where it went because I have never been so busy. But less about that for now and more about….

“Hey, I’m blogging again, guys!”

Yes, yes I am. Oh, how I have missed it. Some time perhaps I’ll fill you all in on where the heck I have been for the last eight months, but at the end of the day I cannot change that fact that where I was wasn’t here blogging on ‘the moon’. Today I’m hoping to change that from here on in. I’m back now and planning to pop in a lot more often. We’ll chat about, well, just about anything we want to; I’ll share with you, you share with me; we’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll rock  and we may very well shake the monitor now and again, and we are going to do all of it  more than we have been.  Savvy? ;) Smashing!

Let us on with the a quick catch -you-up-on-the-very-latest post then, shall we?

So first off, this past weekend here at home in Canada was our Thanksgiving weekend which I spent a portion of  flying through the air on a Tornado. No, I’m not kidding. See….’ Continue reading

The Chains That Bind Us

I’ve never been one content to conform to convention.

I’ve always known it, but confess I haven’t always practiced it. Because let’s be honest: deciding to live your life ‘unconventionally’, chase your dreams, go against the respected grain, be willing to claim who you really are and act on it is hard, really hard.

Sure it’s exciting at first, even liberating to announce to yourself and the world “I’m going to do it! No more dreaming, time to do. It’s time to let the true me out of the box.”

So you get your plan together and you start working on it. Every day you feel blessed and invigorated to finally be stepping out on  The Porch, no longer afraid to face the rain and thunder outside the safety of conventional walls.

And that’s when it happens. Continue reading

Spiked Milk, Sacrifices and a Li’l Moonlight

Whilst I’ve been busy braving rain and roping rainbows lately ( all part of my diabolical masterplan which I will eventually reveal to the masses a.k.a YOU), I’ve also been guestposting and podcasting over at  TheTelevixen.com and thought I’d post a quick round-up:

The Vampire Diaries: Katerina

But it wasn’t only haunting, damaged Katherine who had me squinting through blurry eyes to get through this episode. From the igniting of her “Petrova fire” in the tomb scenes with Katherine, to her epic cryfest crosshairs moment of realization on The Porch, Elena had me too. Elena showed such strength and vulnerability and growth as a character in “Katerina” that I give huge applause to both actress Nina Dobrev and the writers for what I do believe is my favourite Elena episode to date …Read More

The Vampire Diaries: The Sacrifice

Oh my double heart snatch! *gulp, gasp, squeeeee* This week’s show stealer goes to badass Original Elijah, who, I must confess is beginning to rival with badass Damon for my affections.

I know. I’m as shocked as you are. I so did not see that coming, but these Originals are so on it.

Add the eerie blood spell/window creep on Elena and the epic reveal that Elijah is NOT actually trying to kill our beloved doppelganger *gasp, double shocker* but wants her kept safe and protected for the time being – well, Holy Salvatores and Saltzman, episode stolen!..Read More

The List of Happy.

If you sat down right now and wrote out your List of Happy, what would be on it?

You’d probably have the big things like friends, family, career and so on. But what about the little things?

Those obscure little joys that perk up any no-good-very-bad-day and put a li’l pep back in your step. Maybe it’s a song, a flavour of ice cream, or that beloved old jacket. Maybe it’s raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, or bright copper kettles.  Though not necessarily as profound as the big things, they are no less vital in your regiment to right your world when it goes off kilter.

I know I would definitely have the li’l things on my List of Happy.

In fact,  here’s 30 of them:

1. L-l-l-lola! There are few songs in this world that can earworm me for days and have me happy about it like The Kinks’ “Lola” can. Better than chicken soup for remedying a case of the no-good-very-bad day.

2. waking up to the smell of coffee brewing
3. knee-high boots with heels, always
4. leather jackets – find it near impossible NOT to smile from the good vibes felt when slipping into a really great leather jacket
5. Kraft Chewy Caramels – nom nom nom
6. butterfly kisses
7. Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of The Moon” album
8. red wine – especially if it’s Thursday night on The CW ;)
9. vanilla or cinnamon scented anything
10. silver and purple nail polish
11. acoustic guitar tracks and electric guitar riffs
12. bad boy antiheroes – Blame It On Han Solo :D Continue reading

Love Bites. Love Bleeds. And Then There’s “Plan B”

On “The Vampires Diaries” we’re used to it.

Love bites. Love bleeds.

But last Thursday night it brought fandom to its knees with one of the most shocking, stomach-turning, heart-pounding, episodes of the show’s running thus far.

From the moment Damon began the torturous prelude to gouging out Mason’s bloody heart with his bare hands, I might as well have served mine up on a silver platter to the writers and creators of this crazy ass show. By the end of the episode, my heart and my stomach were in my throat and my eyes were burning from the brilliant insanity of the emotional roller-coaster ride they call “Plan B”.

If you haven’t picked up the vibe already, I really loved this episode- as in Top 5 ranking of my all-time favourite “Vampire Diaries” episodes ever. It was that good. I was a complete emotional, distressed, puffy-eyed wreck when it ended, but I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Ooo, heart reference. Too soon?

Okay, okay. Without further ado, let us on with the review. Continue reading

The Vampire Diaries | Bad Moon Rising

I don’t usually make it a habit to do a recap or review per say of “The Vampire Diaries” episodes.

(many amazing people do that already and I read them religiously)

But  “Bad Moon Rising” has had me in such a tizzy of applauding and head-desking (and perhaps a li’l fangirling ) over the last few days, that I’ve decided to take the plunge and post my two-sense on some of the highlights. Also, the whole  ’moon’ theme was pretty damn near impossible to resist ;)   So here goes:   Continue reading
